Heavenly Horizons: Naya Kashmir's Tourism Success

29 Apr 2024

Kashmir the Northernmost Union Territory of India having International borders on two fronts with 3 distinct ethnic people constituting the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State. It has China on the North East and Pakistan on the North and North West, and is an integral part of India.

The Ladakh region is predominantly Buddhist, the Kashmir valley constitutes a majority Muslims and the plains of Jammu are Hindus.  The State of Jammu and Kashmir had a special status at the time of partition.

The State was plagued with tensions on account of insurgency from 1989 and it was only in August 2019 that the special status was revoked thus officially merging the entire State to the Indian Union, when Article 370 was repealed.

The revocation of Article 370 opened the floodgates for growth of the State and since then, we have been experiencing a Naya or New Kashmir. It will not be long before the State of Jammu and Kashmir will see rail link connecting to the rest of India.

There are really exotic and enchanting places in Kashmir, and you can move to those places by booking with a best tour operator in India. Whilst the list has many, we shall endeavor to cover the major places in this blog.

Srinagar:

The capital city of Kashmir, it lies on the banks of River Jhelum. A walk downtown will showcase gardens, lakes, and the house boats anchored to the Dal Lake. Srinagar is the trading center for dry fruits, and Kashmiri handicrafts. The chashma shahi( Fountains), Nishat Bagh (Garden of the springs), Shalimar gardens and Tulip gardens are all worth visiting.

Gulmarg:

It is famous for winter sports and sports a ski friendly surface similar to the one found on the Swiss Alps. The constant snow fall with terraced layers settling on the gentle slopes makes it an ideal ski spot.

It is essentially a perfect getaway for adventure enthusiasts as other outdoor activities like, golfing, trekking, horse riding, water skiing and angling can be experienced. It is rightfully called the heartland of winter sports in India.

Pahalgam:

(97 Kms from Srinagar)It is another popular tourist destination in Kashmir. With pine trees dotting along gentle slopes (coniferous forest) it is a picture perfect occasion to be captured on celluloid. The place has good vegetation and therefore supports green cover. It is the converging point for the famous Amarnath Yatra, located some 16 Kms away.

Sonmarg:

This is generally covered as a day trip Ex- Srinagar. Perched on top of a mountain, the drive is through a picturesque countryside where the majestic rolling hills, green forests, clear streams gushing with fresh water and an occasional paddy field to complete the landscape can be felt.

A trout farm on the return journey is well worth a visit to gain some insight in fish farm cultivation. It is one of the important destinations while you are looking for the Best of Kashmir Honeymoon Package.

Doodhpathri:

This is another picnic spot that would enthrall a guest. The place is indeed beautiful on account of the verdant meadows, and the Shaliganga River on one side flanked by the mountain range on the other. The rocky river turns the flowing water into milky white and thus the name.  The place is ideal for hikers and trekkers.

Katra:

The holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi is located here. The temple is famous because of a belief that whatever is wished for, the Goddess will grant the same. One has to trek to the temple a distance of 12 Kms and the shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi is located inside a cave.

Future Tourism Initiative:

With the completion of the USBRL project a place close to the Chenab Bridge has been identified for bungee jumping. The view from the deck of the bridge will indeed be an exhilarating experience. Though this is in the initial drawing board stage, sure enough this initiative will attract adventure tourism all the more.
