A Guide to Witnessing the Royal Grandeur

Come September/October every year, the Dasara celebration roars alive in Mysore, with gaiety, fun and frolic which can be witnessed only once in a year. Beacon of light adorning the Mysore Palace:  The lighting arrangement is truly spectacular. Every evening the light turns on at around 6 p.m. and is lit till 9 p.m., on all the festive days. Jamboo Savari / Dasara Procession :

The procession from the Mysore Palace to Banni Mandap is the main attraction and perhaps the high light of the festival itself.   Goddess Chamundeshwari, colourfully draped and placed atop the royal elephant to be taken in a procession up to Banni Mandap is once in a life time experience. Participation of a cavalry and camel contingent adds to depth to the splendid activities. Nearly 50 tabulex take part in the procession apart from 1000 of artists.  Total length of the procession is more than 1 km and total kms covered is more than 4 kms.

Torch Light Parade

This is another event, which is a novelty of the Dasara celebrations. The parade consists of motorcycle display in various formations and a torch lit contingent carrying out various drills to thrill the audience is truly awesome. As the torch illumination is done in total darkness, the light emanating from the torches gives a mesmerising feeling and not to speak of special effect that you would normally see on celluloid.  It start evening at around 6.30pm goes on for 3 hours non stop.

Cultural Events

Te city comes to life virtually. With so many auditoriums in the city, the theme that is generally shown revolves on dance, music and folk lore of various genres. Cultural programmes / shows are organised in 5 venues, eminent artists perform and entertain visitors for 10 days. 

Food Fair
