Munnar

A popular hill station, Munnar is located in the Southwestern region of Kerala. It is known as the Kashmir of the South and well-known honeymoon destination. Tea plantation is a major attraction, lush green carpets of the tea estates. Tourists come here to enjoy the climate and the environment. It is one of the best places to visit in south India. There are four directions from Munnar which are Matupatty, Coimbatore, Thekkady and Adimaly direction which has varied tourist attractions.

Wayanad

Situated at an altitude of 700 to 1200 meters above sea level, Wayanad, a district in Kerala is part of the Western Ghats. It is bordered by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. A well-known place in the south has a forest reserve called Muthanga Forest reserve. Also has well-known dams like Banasura Sagar dam and Karapuzha Dam. Edakkal Caves, Pookod Lake, and Kuruvadweep are the tourist attractions in Wayanad.

Backwaters of Kerala

Kerala is entirely different, lush, green and tropical. Even here the backwaters constitute an ecosystem that gives you an entirely different perspective on people and life. Travel to Alleppey and book a houseboat to spend a day or two on Vembanad Lake. You live like people have been living for centuries on boats. Eat freshly prepared food based mainly on fish, enjoy kayaking, walk through the villages lining the banks and walk on the tiny island of Kakkathuruthu.

Ooty

Ooty in the Nilgiris is a cool place to be in Summer. There are tea plantations and hilly tracks to explore, ride the Nilgiri Mountain Railway toy train, go boating on the Ooty Lake and visit the Kalhatti Falls. Ooty can be crowded so if you want a similar resort experience, Kotagiri is not far away. 20km away from Ooty is a small town called Coonoor. It is one of the most serene hill stations in India. It is known for its vast Tea estates. Dolphin's Nose Viewpoint in Coonoor provides a vast panoramic view of the Nilgiri Hills. Enjoy the train journey from Ooty to Mettupalayam via Coonoor.

Kodaikanal

Kodaikanal sitting on the plateau of South India in Tamil Nadu. It offers the best views of the entire greenery. The center of the town has a lake which is 5km circumference man-made lake. It has monsoon-influenced climate throughout the year keeping the temperatures low.

Yercaud

While in Tamil Nadu make it a point to visit Yercaud. It is about 4 hours journey from Bangalore.  It is cool and the entire region is hilly and forested. As for things to do here you can have a picnic by the Kiliyur Falls, hike in the Anna Park and go boating on Yercaud Lake.

Mahabalipuram

While in Tamil Nadu do not forget to visit Mahabalipuram known for its exotic temples. Thankfully it is a beach area so you do not have to bear the scorching heat of summer. You can have fun on the beach and visit temples lining the beach such as the Shore Temple and Five Rathas.

Coorg

Drive over to Karnataka and arrive in the Coorg region. It is hilly and has fabulous terrain interlaced with waterfalls and plantations. Plan to spend at least two days to take in local attractions such as Nagarhole National Park, Brahmagiri Peak, Iruppu and Abbey Falls and, if time permits, the Dubare Elephant Camp. You can just as well spend time exploring the plantations of boating and rafting.

Chikmagalur

In the foothills of Western Ghats, Chikmagalur is 243kms away from Bangalore and is a well-known hill station in Karnataka. It is known for its Coffee cultivation. It has tourists all over India and has a cool climate throughout the year. It also has the highest peak in Karnataka called Mullayyainagiri.

Araku Valley

If you want peace and quiet along with cool weather then Araku Valley in Andhra Pradesh is the place to be. It is a tribal region becoming famous for its coffee and wines. Just lose yourself in the bewitching beauty of the place. Words cannot do justice.
