Madhya Pradesh is the second largest state in terms of area, covering 3,08,245 square kilometres, and perhaps the fifth largest in terms of population., estimated to be around 9 crores.   It is strategically placed almost in the centre of India and therefore, its Name “Madhya”, which is “Central”. Though Bhopal is the Capital city, other important cities include Ujjain, Indore, Gwalior, Khajuraho, Jabalpur, Sagar, Satna and Rewa. Culture

To get a glimpse of their culture, it would be worthwhile to note the following. Unique to the region is Bagh printing. It is a predominantly labour intensive technique of printing. The entire colours used are from natural resources in this printing ranging from flowers, fruits, and seeds.  Whilst preserving nature, natural wood forms are hunted to shape in ornamental products. Zari Zardozi is another important weaving used to show case the intricate manner in which it is weaved and thus, promotes the state culture.  A visit to rural Madhya Pradesh would be an awe inspiring experience to see Mandana Art.  It is a form of folk painting indulged by one of the oldest tribal communities of Madhya Pradesh known as “Meena”. This art is generally created on the walls and floors.

Heritage:

Amazing Bhimbetka has its origin from a legend from the Mahabharata. It is believed Bhima rested here, thus it got it s name. There are over 750 rock shelters and most of them are adorned with paintings.  The largest Shiv ling temple is also located here. The temples of Khajuraho are really exquisite for their art from. The sculpture depicts erotic poses and is entwined in architectural grandeur. The temples belong to both the Hindu and Jain religion. Out of the 85 original temple structures only about 20 have withstood the test of time. The Khajuraho dance festival is slated between Feb 20- Feb 26, 2024, and is a good opportunity for dance lovers to witness and enjoy this exclusive dance form of the region. The fort of Mandu holds another interesting tale. Said to be one of the largest forts in India, and Mandu city existed from the 6th century and is home to ancient Afghani architectural marvels.

Spirituality:

The town of Ujjain, is the Greenwich of India as the latitude passes through the city. The worlds largest gathering of the Khumb Mela (fair) takes place once in 12 years. Chitrakoot another holy pilgrimage centre is known for its mythological significance and natural beauty.  It is believed that Lord Rama and Sita spent a major portion of their exile in the jungles Chitrakoot.  Amarkantak, Mandsaur, are the other travelers’ choice destinations qualifying for the spirituality destinations in the state.

Wildlife:

the most popular name that comes to mind is the Kuno National Park. Cheetah from Namibia has been trans located here and are thriving in the Indian environment. It is perhaps the only game forest where the cheetah can be spotted in India. Bandhavgarh Tiger reserve and National Park is the home for the Bengal tiger, An added novelty is- apart from a land safari a safari that can be witnessed from a hot air balloon also exists.    Kanha Tiger Reserve and Panna National Park are the other locations known for wild life.

Adventure:
